Get ready to face the elements, Pixar style. The animation house has revealed a first look at its upcoming feature, Elemental.
Elemental will see the four core elements – earth, water, fire, and air – personified. In a city where fire, water, land and air residents all live together, we will meet Ember and Wade. The fiery young woman and the go-with-the-flow guy are about to discover something elemental: how much they actually have in common.
I’m sure the amazing team over at Pixar will create some visually stunning imagery with this concept. But is anyone else thinking about that meme?
2023: What if elements had feelings?
Anyways.
The feature comes from director Peter Sohn (The Good Dinosaur). Sohn said the film was inspired by his childhood in New York.
“My parents emigrated from Korea in the early 1970s and built a bustling grocery store in the Bronx,” said Sohn. “We were among many families who ventured to a new land with hopes and dreams—all of us mixing into one big salad bowl of cultures, languages and beautiful little neighborhoods. That’s what led me to Elemental.”
Elemental will officially premiere in summer 2023, but you can get your first look below. Pixar revealed concept art for the film today.
The feature is produced by Denise Ream, who worked with Sohn on The Good Dinosaur.
Elemental will arrive in theaters June 16, 2023.
