Justin Lin exiting Fast X caused a shock in the entertainment world last week. The director left due to “creative differences” but now reports are coming out from the set that Vin Diesel is the root of the issues behind Lin’s departure. It would track with other reports following Dwayne Johnson exiting the series as well. As for the director that Universal has on their list, the newest report out is that Louis Leterrier is the choice to step in.
Sources close to the situation say that his schedule hasn’t cleared up fully, so it’s not a 100% done deal at the moment. The set has second unit footage to go, so they’re not completely wasting time and money, but it’s grossly expensive to keep a film set this large stalled for this long. The quick turnaround between Lin leaving and a new director entering shouldn’t push the film off its scheduled May 19th, 2023 release date though.
The Fast Family returns including Vin Diesel and they’re joined by newcomers Jason Momoa and Brie Larson in the film. Lin and Dan Mazau wrote the screenplay for the tenth entry in the Fast and the Furious franchise. Leterrier’s credits include Clash of the Titans, Now You See Me, and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
