In their latest announcements, Peacock says it is bringing a 3 part documentary series about Barney, the beloved learning Dinosaur.
Who/What is Barney?
Created by Sheryl Leach, Barney and Friends is an American children’s television series. The series premiered on April 6, 1992, on PBS and follows Barney, a purple anthropomorphic Tyrannosaurus rex who teaches education messages through song and dance. As well as, his dinosaur friends, Baby Bop, BJ, and Riff. Who doesn’t remember the “I love you, you love me” theme song?! The series was a huge phenomenon that brought joy to some, and anger to others.
The Three Part Documentary
The documentary project will explore the rise of the singing Dinosaur who captured the hearts of multi-generations of children over the years with his catchy songs, fun learning sketches, and amazing sidekicks: BJ and Baby Bop.
“Barney the Dinosaur [is an] ubiquitous character for children and parents alike. We are thrilled to work with the Scout Productions team to bring this three-part series to Peacock. This documentary is bound to captivate audiences like Barney has over the years.”
Rod Aissa, executive vice president of unscripted content for NBCUniversal Television & Streaming.
Produced by Scout Productions, the three-part documentary will have exclusive interviews from the cast, crew, and critics alike. As well as, tons of archival footage and will be told by a first-hand account of the Barney craze. Scout Productions’ other hit series are Queer Eye on Netflix, as well as, Legendary, and The Hype on HBOMax. They previously produced Fog of War and the LGBTQ+ history doc, Equal. Tommy Avallone will direct, as well as executive produce.
