The new Morbius trailer is here, and it’s bringing a ton of Spider-Verse Easter Eggs with it.

Watch the trailer below to see how many you can spot.

The trailer includes a number of references to other films and characters within the Spider-Verse. Venom gets name-dropped by Morbius himself, and a detective mentions an “incident in San Francisco,” which seems to hint at those films. We catch a glimpse of a Spider-Man mural on a building. We even see Michael Keaton, who played Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. And if you’re quick with the pause button, you can read headlines in the newspaper referencing a couple more Spider-Verse villains (who have yet to appear in the MCU).

Officially, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (Morbius, Venom, the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies) and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (The Avengers, etc.) exist separately. (The Tom Holland-fronted Spider-Man solo movies represent a joint venture between the two companies, including the upcoming No Way Home.)

However, we’ve had more and more crossover between the two universes lately. Venom: Let There Be Carnage featured an end credits scene that directly linked to the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home. And the upcoming No Way Home is confirmed to feature Raimi-verse villain Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina) – though fans anticipate even more crossovers in that feature.

In the upcoming film, a dangerously ill Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and Morbius’ good must override evil to conquer – or succumb to – his dark new urges.

The film stars Jared Leto as Morbius, as well as Adria Arjona, Tyrese Gibson, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Al Madrigal. Morbius premieres in theaters January 28, 2022.
