Ready to get a taste of Fear Street a few days early?

Netflix just released the first five minutes of Fear Street Part 1: 1994. The opening shows Maya Hawke playing a video store clerk in a mall. (And how very ‘90s is that?) But closing down the store for the night gets harder when there’s a killer after you…

Watch the first five minutes of Fear Street below:

Based on the clip, you can tell Fear Street will lean into the nostalgia of its setting. Even the first five minutes manage to feel very ‘90s. It’s also got quite a fun stylized look to it, bringing in the dark/neon contrasts we see in the posters. The masked killer wielding a knife even gives some Scream vibes.

Netflix will debut three Fear Street films back-to-back this July. The trilogy adapts the novels of the same name by R.L. Stine.

In Part 1, a group of teenagers in 1994 accidentally encounter the ancient evil responsible for a series of brutal murders that have plagued their town for over 300 years. Subsequent films move back in time, with Part 2 showing events from 1978 and Part 3 jumping back to 1666.

In addition to Hawke, Fear Street Part 1: 1994 stars Kiana Madeira, Olivia Scott Welch, Benjamin Flores Jr., Julia Rehwald, Fred Hechinger, Ashley Zukerman, Darrell Britt-Gibson. Jordana Spiro, Jordyn Dinatale, and Jeremy Ford.

So, what did you think of the opening to Fear Street? Will you venture to Shadyside this summer to investigate the evil there? If you’re a fan of the R.L. Stine books, let us know what you’re hoping makes it into the Netflix adaptation in the comments.

Fear Street Part 1: 1994 premieres on Netflix July 2. Part 2:1978 and Part 3: 1666 debut on July 9 and 16 respectively.
