Hello everyone, your friendly neighborhood Professor Hulk here. I’m about to drop some knowledge on some exciting stuff going on in the film and TV world. Last week we shared with you that a live-action Inquisitors series is in development; we’re sticking to space this week and discussing Mass Effect.

Before we dive into the details on this exclusive, it’s worth mentioning that Netflix is eyeing an expansion into video game related media, and have even recently hired a new Executive to bring in new ideas and work on projects associated with video games. This is admittingly huge. There will be a lot to unpack in the months and years to come, but this also means more adaptations of known video game properties.

One such property is Mass Effect. The video game series launched in the mid-2000’s with the original Mass Effect trilogy, which had it’s highs and lows (I’m looking at you Mass Effect 3’s ending) and then the underwhelming Mass Effect: Andromeda.

What Will A Mass Effect Series Entail?

We can exclusively share that an animated Mass Effect series is in development for Netflix. This will be an original story that takes place alongside Command Shepard’s story from the original trilogy. Don’t expect Shepard to appear, but there’s chances that side characters and companions will appear. The new story will focus on an Alliance military operative who is investigating terrorist acts across the galaxy.

One part of Mass Effect’s endearing legacy is it’s idea of choice. From what we’ve seen of early concept, the show will give viewers (players?) the freedom to choose the gender and look of your character alongside a class. From there, the show will play out much like Netflix’s other interactive stories. Based on what I hear though, Netflix has advanced the technology to recognize choices from a previous title. So that means, if you interact with Episode 1, Episode 2 will remember your choices. Whereas before, the choices were contained within one title with the titles being more like movies than an episode of a series.

More information will come as the project continues along in development but for now, this is an exciting new project set in the Mass Effect universe.
