It seems that in addition to the titular Obi-Wan Kenobi himself, his Disney+ series will have a bunch of classic Star Wars characters as cameos too. Ewan McGregor is probably squealing on the inside.
During an interview with Variety alongside Pedro Pascal, Ewan McGregor let slip something very interesting about his upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series. All while mentioning how careful he has to be about letting things slip, funnily enough. He mentions though that while on set for the series, he walked past a pair of Stormtroopers. He realized that he had never filmed a scene with Stormtroopers before. All of his previous encounters were with clone troopers, so he was very excited about this. Apparently, at that moment, he “was 6 years old again”. Evidently, the whole scene was a source of nostalgia for him.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Return of the Stormtroopers?
Maybe the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will even depict the Stormtroopers as they were meant to be, and not how they became through Flanderization. See, Stormtroopers weren’t meant to be the idiotic rank and file they are in memes. Certainly not the kind with that atrocious aim.
See, the quote from Obi-Wan Kenobi (or Old Ben, as we knew him then) was “These blast points, too accurate for Sandpeople. Only Imperial Stormtroopers are so precise.”. The Stormtroopers were shooting a gargantuan sandcrawler. They had to be precise to hit weak points in its armor. Thus, Stormtroopers are actually really accurate marksmen. Their bad rep came entirely from the Death Star when they had strict orders from Lord Vader himself to let the rebels escape while putting up a good show of it. In almost every other scene they were in, they were as precise as Old Ben described. It’ll be interesting if the Obi-Wan Kenobi series preserves this to make them genuinely threatening.
Conclusion
Ewan McGregor revealed that Stormtroopers will appear in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series. Maybe they will even be as threatening as they were in the Original Trilogy. I guess we will just find out if this is true when this upcoming Star Wars series premieres in 2022.
