DC fans will have to enroll in yet another subscription program if they want to keep streaming DC shows and reading DC comics. This morning the platform DC Universe announced it would become a comics-only subscription platform in January 2021.

When DC Universe launched back in September of 2018, it promised fans access to their favorite comics, as well as classic DC shows and DC Universe exclusive originals. Now, all the TV and film content appearing on DC Universe will shift to HBO Max. (For those of you keeping track, we predicted this months ago.)

So if you want access to your DC comics and your favorite DC shows and films, you’ll need a subscription to both HBO Max and the newly branded “DC Universe Infinite.” Here’s what you need to know about the change.

Everything You Need To Know About DC Universe Infinite

What You Get…

DC Universe Infinite deal

What You’ll Pay

The same you were already paying for DC Universe – $7.99/month or $74.99/year.

When The Change Happens

DC Universe will officially become DC Universe Infinite on January 21, 2021. The launch rolls out first in the US, with the international launch occurring summer 2021.

Is It Worth It?

If you were already a DC Universe subscriber, this news will come as a bit of a blow. Since the subscription price is staying the same, you’re essentially paying more for less content. Even if you subscribed mostly for the comics, it’s not great to learn that streaming content is no longer an option.

But to be fair to DC, $7.99/month for comics isn’t exactly unheard of. For example, the similarly structured Marvel Unlimited comics subscription actually costs more at $9.99/month.

DC seems to be aware its subscribers may not be pleased with the content shift. So, they’ve preemptively introduced a special DC Universe Infinite/HBO Max package deal. DC Universe Infinite subscribers can add HBO Max for only $4.99/month. The regular subscription to HBO Max costs $14.99/month.

So, are you a DC Universe subscriber? Will you ride out the switch to DC Universe Infinite? Let us know in the comments.
