The Umbrella Academy dropped a season 2 trailer featuring a new song from My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way.

Fans have been waiting for Way to get involved with the series musically. He co-created the original Umbrella Academy comics and works on the show as a writer/producer. You can check out the song – as well as new season 2 footage – in the trailer below.

The song featured in the trailer is called “Here Comes the End.” (Umbrella Academy fans will know how fitting that title really is.) It’s been a work-in-progress for Way for a while.

“I was originally inspired to write this track when series one of The Umbrella Academy was being shot,” Way said. “By the time I finished it 2020 was in full swing, the world had taken a profound turn and the song was finished in a surreal new reality.”

What else do we know about season 2?

The Umbrella Academy  family of superhero misfits – Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Five, Ben, and Vanya – failed to stop the apocalypse in season 1.

And what do you do when the world ends? If you’ve got time travel powers, the answer is “go back before it ended.”

The season 2 trailer reveals the gang ended up in Dallas in the 1960s. Unfortunately, time travel is tricky: not all the Hargreeves ended up in quite the same place.

The time jump scatters the siblings across Dallas – and across a three year period. This creates more conflict between them, as some have been stuck in the past for years before their other family members show up. When Five finally shows up last, it’s just in time for yet another nuclear doomsday event.

The Umbrella Academy will have to find a way to reunite and solve this doomsday event…before getting back to the present to stop that apocalypse. Oh, and they’re still being hunted by assassins.

Yeah, it’s complicated.

Fans won’t have long to wait to see how the Hargreeves deal with yet another end of the world. Season 2 of The Umbrella Academy hits Netflix July 31.
