Story Synopsis: Cosmic Ghost Rider: Baby Thanos Must Die

Punisher Frank Castle has been given great power and has one last chance to use it for good.  He has decided to go back in time and kill baby Thanos in this week’s Comic Rewind, Cosmic Ghost Rider: Baby Thanos Must Die.

Castle has always been a force for good, but his tactics have always followed the “ends justifies the means” mentality.  When Thanos came to Earth, Castle was one of the heroes who opposed him and one of the heroes who died. Thanos won and conquered the universe in this alternate dimension.

After Castle died Mephisto made him the new Ghost Rider and after that Galactus made him his new herald giving Castle cosmic powers.  Eventually Castle died again and went to the great hall of warriors, Valhalla. However, Castle hated it there because as Punisher he knew that someday he too would be punished.  Going to Valhalla was a reward not a punishment.

Cosmic Ghost Rider: Time Traveler

Odin gave Castle the opportunity to go to any year and resume his Cosmic Ghost Rider Punisher ways.  He chose the day Thanos was born. However, Castle could not kill a baby even if that baby was Thanos.  Castle decided to raise Thanos the right way so he would grow into a good person. However, time traveler Cable showed up and said Thanos was even worse now and someone must kill baby Thanos.  What would a Thanos raised by Punisher turn into?

Cosmic Ghost Rider: Baby Thanos Must Die was written by Donny Cates with art by Dylan Burnett and Antonio Fabela.  Marvel Comics published the volume in 2019.

Is A Punisher Raised Thanos A Good Thing?

This comic was an absolute blast to read.  It was just so much fun and I breezed through it in no time at all.

The idea of what would happen if someone killed Hitler before he took power is a common discussion.  As a time traveler it would be one of the first things he/she would want to do. However, maybe the world would be worse and a more capable leader would have taken power.

However, this is a comic book and who is the Hitler of comics?  The answer is simple it’s Thanos. I liked that Castle was always the same good person no matter what he had seen and what power he had.  A baby is still just a baby even it is Thanos. He tried to do the right thing and just think what a force for good Thanos would be if he didn’t turn evil.

What A Fun What-If Story

I enjoy what-if stories which go in real deep to the whole world of the what if.  This comic does a pretty good job of that. However, I would have liked to have seen Thanos grow up and see how he changes over the years.  It would be interesting to see when, where, why and how of Thanos turned evil.

This was just a really fun comic.  I really wish there were more comics with Cosmic Ghost Rider.  However, it was weird to have an essentially Punisher comic be so lighthearted and funny.  I really want more of it though.

I don’t know why but this comic slipped under my radar big time.  However, I am really glad I read it. This is a must read comic and is just so much fun.  A lighthearted adventure with Punisher and Thanos sounds impossible, but Cates pulled it off big time.
