Most of us read William Golding’s Lord of the Flies in middle school. The novel focused on a bunch of schoolboys marooned on a tropical island. It is a poignant tale of how quickly social norms and civil discourse can evaporate without some sort of societal structure. Now imagine that… in space. That’s exactly what you get with the new science-fiction adventure, Voyagers. And That Hashtag Show has exclusively learned that actors Colin Farrell and Tye Sheridan may soon be attached to the film.
Literally described as “Lord of the Flies in Space,” Voyagers takes place twenty-five years in the future. “A risky space mission to colonize a distant world using hybrid teenagers is posed to end in failure when the initial crew quickly find themselves in violent conflict.” Both Colin Farrell and Tye Sheridan are in negotiations to play pivotal roles in Voyagers.
Colin Farrell and Tye Sheridan in talks for Sci-Fi Lord of the Flies
Colin Farrell (late of Dumbo, Fantastic Beasts) is slated to portray Dr. Richard Alling (Lead Male, 30-49). He’s described as “a geneticist who raised the child astronauts and will be the only adult accompanying them on their one-way mission. Caring, but has a secret he is not comfortable with.” Farrell’s no stranger to science-fiction, having also played the lead in the 2012 remake of Total Recall.
Tye Sheridan, on the other hand, is still riding the wave of last year’s sci-fi blockbuster Ready Player One. He’ll also reprise his role as Scott Summers/Cyclops in this year’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix. For Voyagers, he’s in talks to play Christopher (Lead Male, 18):
[Christopher] and Jack begin as friends but become rivals after Richard’s death when Jack goes rogue and tries to stage a mutiny. Grounded, clear-sighted. Elected by his peers as leader of the ship after the death of their adult guardian.
The studio has also offered the part of Zac (f/k/a Jack) to Fionn Whitehead, star of Christopher Nolan’s epic, Dunkirk. Whitehead, together with Colin Farrell and Tye Sheridan, completes a fine trio of male actors to spearhead the Voyagers story. There is no word yet on casting of the film’s female leads.
Voyagers will likely start production in Romania this June. Stay tuned here to That Hashtag Show for more information on Colin Farrell, Tye Sheridan and Voyagers as we learn more!
