Orion Pictures and Rough House Productions are developing Fatman, a dark comedy that tells the tale of Billy Wenan, a spoiled rich kid who upon receiving a lump of coal for Christmas hires a hitman to take out Santa.

The film was written and will be directed by brothers Eshom and Ian Nelms who directed the 2017 thriller Small Town Crime. The film is tentatively set to film in Calgary beginning in February with a $12.5M budget.

As the project begins to take shape, the studio is hoping to land 3 big names to fill the film’s lead roles. Jacob Tremblay (Wonder, The Predator) is atop their list for the role of Billy while Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Dumbo) is being pursued for the role of the unorthodox hitman, known as “Skinny Man”, hired by Billy to take out Santa. The studio is pursuing Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2) for the part of Santa, portrayed here as a drunk, cynical factory owner who has reached burn out. Whether any or all of the actors pass on the roles remains to be seen.
