Now that the ink has dried on the on the Disney/Fox merger, the MCU has all the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters at their disposal. There is no official word for when we may see the X-Men in their own, new films. Additionally, Phase Four MCU projects are still unannounced. So, it makes one wonder how they will deal with the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.

The Scarlet Witch, currently played by Elizabeth Olsen, could be an easy course correction. Fan theories have already been circulating around the web.  The prevailing theory is that the MCU can use this as the perfect opportunity to introduce mutants and the X-Gene. Avengers: Age of Ultron showed their power backstory as a Hydra’s experimentation. The MCU could easily retcon that by discovering Hydra simply awakened their latent mutations.

Is the Door Open in Endgame to Bring Quicksilver Back?

The bigger question is how, if at all, will they deal with the death of Quicksilver.  As we all know, Quicksilver met his untimely death near the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, due to the barrage of bullets he took saving Hawkeye.  However, we all know that the true fatal blow to Quicksilver in the MCU was that he was still an active character in Fox’s X-Men movie universe.

The easy way to reintroduce Quicksilver would be to use the existing character from Fox’s X-Men franchise. That Quicksilver, Peter Maximoff (conveniently a similar yet different name) is still alive. However, the rumor is that none of the existing actors will be kept on for future MCU movies once the X-Men are introduced. So the likelihood of this happening is slim to none.

The best way for the MCU to bring back Quicksilver would be to use the prevailing fan theory surrounding Avengers: Endgame.  It is thought that the surviving Avengers will use the quantum realm to travel back in time.  If this is true, then this leaves the door open for the writers of future MCU projects to reintroduce Quicksilver by making sure whatever events the Avengers alter in the past also alter the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Let’s hope that the MCU seizes this opportunity to bring back this character for future MCU films!
