WonderCon 2019 fans got to see the Agents of SHIELD Season 6 premiere in it’s entirety this weekend. That’s a full forty-one days before it’s debut on May 10th on ABC. [WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD.]

The episode picks up one year later from the events of last season. Two main story lines are being told. We see the struggles that Mack is going through as the new Director of SHIELD, and Jemma’s search for Fitz in the deepest parts of space.

Agents of SHIELD Premier: The New Team

Mack is shown with his SHIELD team, which consists of some newer recruits. We see that Mack is a strong leader, but is also understanding of situations that his team gets itself into. With Jemma in space and Fitz MIA, Mack would like Agent May (Ming-Na Wen) to recruit intelligent minds to fill their needs in the scientific department. Which leads to the introduction of Marcus Benson, who seems unwilling to be part of the team but tags along after an interesting discovery.

The team is investigating a number of portals that have been opening throughout the world, and through those portals we are introduced to our new villains. SHIELD tries to pinpoint how and why these portals are opening.

In this season we’re introduced to two newer members of the team, one of whom seems to be having a romantic relationship with Yo-Yo (Natalia Cordova-Buckley). This is, of course, a relationship they’ve been keeping from everyone else, mainly out of the fear of what Mack will think.

Jemma’s Search For Fitz

Daisy, Jemma, Agent Davis, and Agent Piper are on the search for Fitz’s pod. They do finally find it, but it’s empty. We’re treated to a new side of Jemma, who will seemingly do anything to find Fitz. This includes being horribly selfish. The majority of the team decides that following a lead they’ve found that will lead them deeper into space is not a good idea. and disobeying orders from Daisy (her field officer and superior).

The New Coulson

Our new team ends up tracking the trio of bad guys who have traveled through one of the portals. They’ve made their way to a museum, which seems to be where the next opening of a portal will be. SHIELD intercepts this information, and arrives on the scene. They’re too late and the destruction of the museum via massive explosion triggers the next portal opening. A gigantic semi truck appears through the smoke, and the above scene happens. Whomever Clark Gregg is playing this season, he seems like bad news.

We don’t see new series regular Deke (Jeff Ward) anywhere in the premiere. Fitz (Ian De Caestecker) is seen in the after credits scene, which gives us more questions than answers.

Agents of SHIELD came out the gate with a very strong episode, and should have it’s fans buzzing until the premiere May 10th on ABC.
