The inter-dimensional rifts have been quiet lately but things are heating up.

Suit Up

As reported by Variety, Legendary Entertainment has a first-look television deal with Eric Heisserer. His production company, Chronology, which he founded with Carmen Lewis; will develop projects for Legendary based on their properties. While there are likely going to be quite a few projects stemming from this; the first official project is a prequel series set in the Pacific Rim universe which will act as an origin story for the series.

Pacific Rim

Jason Clodfelter, President of Legendary Television had this to say:

“Eric is a multitalented, prolific creator whose track record of critical and commercial successes speaks for itself. We are thrilled to launch our partnership with Eric, Chronology, and Carmen, with a new entry in the epic, globally popular Pacific Rim universe. We are certain their vision will make for an enthralling expansion to Legendary’s beloved franchise.”

Chronology is gearing up to be busy as they also have a first-look film deal with Sony.

Lots Of Questions Still

There’s no word on where this prequel series will air, if it’s live-action or animated, or who any of the creative talent is. So there’s a lot of missing information here but still; fans are likely excited to see the franchise continue on.

Aside from the the 2013 original film there was the 2018 sequel, Pacific Rim: Uprising. After that, there wasn’t much until the anime series Pacific Rim: The Black landed on Netflix in 2021, with the series running for two seasons and ending in 2022.

What do you think of a Pacific Rim prequel series? Will anything be as absurd as when they pulled a monster’s heart out of a robot in the sequel? Certainly, there’s always a chance!
