Happy Gilmore is a rather odd film that made its debut all the way back in 1996. It’s basically a sports comedy story in which a failing hockey player (played by Adam Sandler) tries his hand at a new sport: professional golf, in order to save his grandma’s house from foreclosure. Played in a most unprofessional way, mind you. As you can imagine, this is quite the niche film that didn’t do too well among critics, garnering only middling reviews at best. However, audiences loved this film, with the average theater-goer giving it 85% over 250,000+ reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Thus, you can understand why it ended up turning into a cult film. Especially among golfers themselves, given the subject of the film.
Thus, you can now understand why there would be quite a bit of attention on a Happy Gilmore 2. Especially since Netflix is announcing it, along with some confirmation about the key member of this sequel’s cast.
Happy Gilmore 2: Details
Variety has just revealed that Netflix is announcing the good news about Happy Gilmore 2. Apparently, Netflix confirmed this news during their “upfront presentation” to advertisers in New York. Interestingly, this news also comes with the confirmation that Adam Sandler will be returning to star in this sequel. Thus, you can bet that at the very least, Sandler will get his day once more. Who knows? Perhaps he will even get a massive boost to his reputation after this.
Alas, that’s all the news Netflix has for us as far as this Happy Gilmore 2 news goes. There’s no mention of any other cast members, no director, and not even so much as a release window for us. We’ll just have to wait for Netflix to give us that news later. Tune back in to THS on that later to find out more about this Happy Gilmore sequel when we do.
