Jamie Lee Curtis is a cool old lady, and Kureha from One Piece is also a cool old lady. So it’s only natural that fans would want Curtis to play Tony Tony Chopper’s mentor/parent figure in the upcoming second season Netflix is developing for their live-action adaptation of the anime and manga of the same name by Eiichiro Oda. However, from the looks of Curtis’ social media, it looks like she’s just as excited for the role as the One Piece fans are.

Jamie Lee Curtis herself on her Instagram account talked about the growing fan campaign around her playing Dr. Kureha in the upcoming (and still in the works) Netflix’s One Piece season 2. Apparently, she’s just as excited as the fans for the opportunity to play the cool old lady doctor from Drum Island. Although she’s waiting for AMTPT to actually give everyone fair contracts to settle the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike before embarking on that voyage. If she can make an IRS inspector one of the most sympathetic characters in a movie, then she will be great as Kureha.

So how would Jamie Lee Curtis fare as the irrepressible Dr. Kureha? Well, given how she’s done in all of her other roles, I would say pretty well. Even her early career as a “scream queen” in horror and slasher films could work here. What with how Netflix’s One Piece is going for a darker and more dramatic tone than the source material and all?

But in order to get a proper look at how Jamie Lee Curtis would perform as Dr. Kureha, we must look to one of her most recent performances: Everything Everywhere All at Once. This 2022 film with far too many genres to count had Curtis play IRS inspector Deirdre Beaubeirdre. You wouldn’t expect her to play such a prominent role at first, but she quickly becomes one of the most important side characters in the whole film. On top of being incredibly awesome to boot.
