What is this Doona! show that’s about to come out on Netflix, you might ask? Well, it’s basically the live-action adaptation of the South Korean romance manhwa The Girl Downstairs by MIN SONGA. Thus far, it’s only had a Chinese animated adaptation, which premiered on Bilibili (basically China’s version of YouTube) on April 20, 2023. It’s only now that the manwha is making the leap to live-action with this Netflix adaptation, which really speaks to how popular that manwha is. Not convinced? Then why not watch the Netflix trailer below, and see if this romance story is for you for yourself?

Doona!: Details

Just pure romance with no comedy and only drama? Probably not my cup of tea, to be honest.

Netflix is proud to officially announce Doona! with that YouTube trailer above. The trailer introduces us to the stars of this romance story: Lee Won-jun (played by Yang Se-jong) and the titular Lee Doona (played by Bae Suzy). The trailer reveals that this particular live-action South Korean show by director Lee Jyeong-hyo (Crash Landing On You) is pure romance. Not much comedy that I could make out. It’s just romance with a hint of drama in it for flavor. If that’s your cup of tea, then this might be the Korean drama for you.

So when are we going to get to see what this Korean romantic drama is about? Well, the trailer reveals that Doona! will make its global premiere on October 20, 2023.
