When you first saw that there was going to be a Barbie film, did you all also just go “Meh” and assume that it was going to be a fairly mediocre film? And yet, it seems like Barbie has become successful beyond our wildest dreams. All you have to do is look at how it’s doing at the box office, both domestically in the US and worldwide, to get solid evidence of that. Seriously, the numbers don’t lie here, as you can see in the title.
Barbie: Box Office Details
Film industry data website The Numbers has just revealed that Barbie has reached some major milestones at the box office. Even in just the domestic box office here in the US, it seems that she’s making great strides. How great a stride, you might ask? Well, do you consider $258.4 million USD to be a lot of money? It’s even more impressive when you consider that, as of this writing, it’s literally only been a week since the film first released in US theaters on July 21, 2023.
That’s not all though, especially when you have everywhere outside the US to consider. Barbie managed to earn $193.8 million USD overseas, with the United Kingdom raking in the most cash in any single non-US country given the $23.8 million USD the film managed to rake in there. Mexico wasn’t that far behind either, adding another $22.8 million USD to the total.
All in all, this means that Barbie managed to earn a grand total of $452.2 million USD at the worldwide box office. Just a few tens of millions more, and this film will have breached the half-a-billion milestone. Seriously, Greta Gerwig should be proud of her Mattel-flavored masterpiece here. Since, as I remind you all, this is only the first week of this film’s release, and it’s already the 9th highest-grossing film of 2023. Undoubtedly, more revenue will come in for this film at the box office in the coming weeks. Tune back into THS for more Barbie news when we get it.
