Bodyguard actress Keeley Hawes just joined the new Orphan Black series.
Set in the near future, Orphan Black: Echoes takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence. It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unraveling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.
Hawes will play a perceptive but sensitive scientist who finds herself at odds with her own moral code when circumstances lead her to make an unthinkable choice.
In addition to Bodyguard, Hawes’ TV credits include It’s A Sin, Mrs. Wilson, Line of Duty, and The Midwich Cuckoos. She has received three BAFTA nominations. Hawes will next appear in the miniseries Crossfire, which she also produces under her company Buddy Club Productions.
Orphan Black: Echoes comes from creator, writer, and showrunner Anna Fishko (The Society, Fear the Walking Dead). John Fawcett, who co-created the original series, also serves as an executive producer on Echoes.
Though the series takes place in the same universe as the original, it will not focus on Sarah Manning or any of the other clones portrayed by Tatiana Maslany.
Hawes joins previously announced series regulars Krysten Ritter (who also serves as an executive producer on the series), Amanda Fix, and Avan Jogia.
The ten-episode first season of Orphan Black: Echoes is currently in production in Toronto. It will debut on AMC in 2023.
