Ben Kingsley‘s turn as Trevor Slattery/The Mandarin in Iron Man 3 was maligned by comics fans as a bait and switch, but his reprisal of the role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings brought him back to the good graces of fans. Now, according to Variety, Kingsley is joining the upcoming Wonder Man Disney+ series. That show was first revealed to be in the works back in June. Wonder Man focuses on Simon Williams, an actor, and stuntman who gains superpowers. It was thought that the series would be a Hollywood satire, and this casting adds credence to that rumor with Slattery being a failed actor.

The plot of Wonder Man and Kingsley’s full role are still under wraps but it’s being reported that he’ll play a major role. Destin Daniel Cretton will serve as Executive Producer and Co-Creator on the Wonder Man series. Kingsley is one of the most storied and celebrated actors in history with many fantastic roles over the years and multiple Academy Award nominations and a win for Gandhi.

Andrew Guest is set as Head Writer on the series with Cretton possibly directing some of the episodes. He’ll be busy with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty coming up, so he might have to pass on that.

We’ll keep you updated on this as it develops.
