So One Piece Film: Red just made its debut in Japan, and this anime film will soon make its debut in NA. The anime series has certainly noticed this. It’s why they’ve just released a special opening for a new series of episodes that depict the pasts of both Luffy and Uta. Check it out below:

A Special Opening for a Great Prequel?

No, that video isn’t NSFW. It’s only sensitive in terms of potential spoilers.

One Piece Spoiler’s official Twitter account has just posted a special opening for the One Piece anime series above. As you can see, this special opening is basically a promotion of the latest One Piece anime film: One Piece Film: Red. The special opening even features a very lovely song by the main character Uta. Kaori Nazuka voices Uta, but not for her singing voice. That honor goes to Ado, and as you can tell by Uta’s song throughout the special opening, there’s a reason why Ado is her singing voice. Her deep, almost-contralto voice is quite pleasing to listen to, and I would be very eager to hear more in the actual anime film.

Now you all might be wondering: why would the One Piece anime series show off this special opening now? Well, according to Comic Book, it seems that the anime actually has something special to promote One Piece Film: Red. Apparently, they’re taking a break from the Wano arc to focus on the pasts of Luffy and Uta in a series of special episodes. These special episodes start with season 13, episode 1029. There is currently only 1 special episode so far, but more is likely on the way. You can check out these special episodes, as well as the rest of the anime, on Crunchyroll or Funimation.

One Piece Film: Red ~ Details

"One Piece Film: Red" key art.
If the song quality and this key art are anything to go on, then this anime film is looking good.

One Piece Film: Red is the 15th and latest anime film of the One Piece anime film series, which is part of the anime adaptation of the fantasy adventure manga of the same name by Eiichiro Oda. Toei Animation (Dragon Ball, Digimon, Precure) is the animation studio behind this anime film. Gorō Taniguchi is the director, with Tsutomu Kuroiwa writing the screenplay, and Eiichiro Oda himself producing. In fact, this particular anime film is the one anime film Oda participated in the most, so it’s practically canon. Yasutaka Nakata composed the music.

As for what One Piece Film: Red is about? Well, Crunchyroll has an official synopsis for it. Check it out below:

Uta —the most beloved singer in the world. Renowned for concealing her own identity when performing, her voice has come to be described as “otherworldly.” Now, for the first time ever, Uta will reveal herself to the world at a live concert. As the venue fills with all kinds of Uta fans—excited pirates, the Navy watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who simply came to enjoy her sonorous performance—the voice that the whole world has been waiting for is about to resound. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is Shanks’ daughter.

One Piece Film: Red will make its NA premiere sometime in Fall 2022.
