One of the most influential comedic directors of all time has passed away. Ivan Reitman, director of films like Ghostbusters, Animal House, and other films has passed away at 75. According to his family, the director passed away in his sleep surrounded by family earlier today. His family made a joint statement about his passing.
Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father, and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life, We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world. While we mourn privately, we hope those who knew him through his films will remember him always.
The director was known for comedies that pushed the bar and made their mark on the history of film. He also directed Bill Murray in Meatballs, Stripes, and Ghostbusters. In addition to those famous films, he directed Twins, Kindergarten Cop, Junior, and produced films like Old School, EuroTrip, and the recent Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
His films broke ground, and he’s arguably the most successful comedic director of all time. Join us in remembering the great work of Ivan Reitman, and celebrate his life.
He’s survived by his three children Jason Reitman, Catherine Reitman, and Caroline Reitman.
