Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most hotly anticipated shows in recent memory. The return of Ewan McGregor to one of the most famous characters in movie history has everyone in Star Wars fandom salivating. Recently, the show had a new poster and its release date was revealed. It’s coming out on the 45th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope on May 25th, 2022. The new poster also showed off what we can expect Kenobi to look like.
But what else is there about the show? Who’s starring in it? How many episodes is it? There are plenty of questions, and here are some of the answers.
Who’s Directing And Writing Kenobi?
Deborah Chow, who directed two episodes of The Mandalorian, “Chapter 3: The Sin” and “Chapter 7: The Reckoning” is directing all six episodes of the limited series. She’s joined by Joby Harold and Hannah Friedman as the writers for the show. It originally had Hossein Amini as the lead writer, but he left the project in January 2020. That departure forced a delay to the show’s production and the COVID-19 pandemic has also forced some delays to the massive show.
Harold’s credits include Army of the Dead and the upcoming Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. He’s more known as a producer with credits for John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Robin Hood, Edge of Tomorrow, and some major upcoming projects. Hannah Friedman has credits writing for Wet Hot American Summer: First Day Of Camp and the upcoming Willow series for Disney+.
One person who we know won’t have any involvement in the series is Jon Favreau. The man behind The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett won’t be part of the show creatively. Ewan McGregor confirmed this in an interview with Eddie Izzard. You can read more about that here.
Who’s In The Cast For Obi-Wan Kenobi?
The cast contains some major stars and up and comers in the film/TV industry. It stars Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan, Hayden Christensen returns after a massive time away as Darth Vader/Anakin. In addition to him, Joel Edgerton reprises his role from Revenge of the Sith as Owen Lars. Bonnie Piesse also reprises her role as Beru Lars from the prequel trilogy. Outside of them, the cast also includes Kumail Nanjiani, Rupert Friend, Maya Erskine, Benny Safdie, O’Shea Jackson Jr, Sung Kang, Bonnie Piesse, Moses Ingram, Simone Kessell, and Indira Varma.
Just who are all these new people playing? We don’t have very much concrete information about their roles but in some interviews, they’ve let some things slip. Sung Kang might’ve tipped off that he’s playing an Inquisitor on the show. In addition, there was a new rumor that Rupert Friend is playing the Grand Inquisitor on the series. Outside of those two, the other roles are shrouded in mystery until we know more about the series.
What’s The Story Of Obi-Wan Kenobi?
This is also under tight wraps, but from the rumors and details that have leaked, it seems like the show is about Obi-Wan Kenobi’s journey after Revenge of the Sith. just how deep it goes and what that entails, we don’t know yet. It has Hayden Christensen returning as Anakin/Darth Vader, so we could see a confrontation between the two former friends. It might just be flashbacks, but recent reports are saying his role will be big in the series.
The reports of Inquisitors are also a rumor, for now, we haven’t seen anything concrete from Disney or LucasFilm on those characters.
Where’s The First Trailer?
Obi-Wan Kenobi doesn’t have a trailer yet, all we’ve seen are some behind-the-scenes footage and the recent poster that Disney and LucasFilm released. As for a trailer, one should arrive in the coming weeks/months.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is shaping up to be a gigantic series for Disney+. Since its announcement, fans have been waiting with bated breath to see the return of the classic character. We won’t have to wait long for the release this May.
