What can fans expect from Spider-Man: No Way Home? 

The movie is shrouded in Marvel’s typical secrecy, so very few details have been officially confirmed. But now Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland, is revealing more about what fans can expect in No Way Home.

(And no, he didn’t reveal anything by accident this time.)

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Holland discussed the action style in No Way Home and compared it with his previous solo Spidey flicks. Holland promised the upcoming movie would feature “a lot more hand-to-hand combat.” He also described the fight scenes as “a lot more visceral” than previous films.

Holland attributes the escalation in intensity to the introduction of magic to Peter Parker’s world. The film will see Peter approach Doctor Strange for help after his secret identity becomes public knowledge. But dipping into Doctor Strange’s mystical world creates a whole bunch of (multiverse) problems.

“When you’re dealing with magic spells and dimensions, it really gets complicated,” said Holland.

Still, it’s a complication the actor and director Jon Watts embraced for this third film. 

“The first film, Jon Watts and I were sort of flying by the seat of our pants,” Holland said. “This one, I think we both felt really confident, so we were able to relax. We actually had so much more fun on this one than we did on the previous two.”

So, beyond a general feel for the fight scenes, what can fans expect from the movie? Well, if you’re looking for confirmation that former Spideys Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will appear in the movie, or that Spider-Man will face off against the Sinister Six… Holland’s lips are sealed. 

He did get to discuss working with Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus though. Holland described Molina as “one of my favorite people I’ve ever worked with.”

“It was really fun to watch him see how technology has advanced,” Holland added. “When he was making these films, the arms were puppets, and when we did it, they’re all imaginary and CG. It was quite cool to see him relive it, but also relearn it.”

Spider-Man: No Way Home premieres in theaters December 17.
