Knights of Sidonia: Details
For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, let me summarize without spoilers. Knights of Sidonia is Tsutomu Nihei’s 5th serialized work. The story is a space opera with elements of horror, biopunk and cyberpunk (typically Tsutomu Nihei), and as you can tell from the trailer and key visual: giant robots called Garde (not typically Tsutomu Nihei). The synopsis from Funimation gives a bit more details:
The anime series is set a thousand years in the future where an alien race threatens to wipe out the human race. The adventure follows Nagate Tanikaze, training to become a Garde pilot and defend the massive starship Sidonia from a hostile alien species called Gauna.
Conclusion
Funimation will premiere the anime film Knights of Sidonia: Love Woven in the Stars in US and Canadian theaters on September 13, 2021. To ramp up the hype for it, they will also stream the first 2 seasons of the anime. Want to watch giant robots fighting horrific aliens in a biopunk and cyberpunk space opera anime? With some romantic comedy hijinks thrown in? Then check this anime out, and we will see if we can make a Tsutomu Nihei fan out of you folks yet.
