Looks like Netflix has snapped up another anime film in the form of Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild. Even better, they even have a new official trailer for us. And somehow adding even more to the hype, fans of the games might recognize a certain young Hunter as the main character here.

Going full CG, eh?

Netflix is proud to officially announce Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild in the form of the trailer above on July 15, 2021. This will be a full-length CG animated/anime film from Capcom and Pure Imagination Studios based directly off of the Monster Hunter games. Although, you may have already guessed that if you recognize young Aiden here from the games. In fact, it even mentions him in the synopsis in the YouTube video’s description:

In a world where humans and fearsome monsters live in an uneasy balance, young hunter Aiden fights to save his village from destruction by a dragon.

The trailer also revealed that Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild will arrive on Netflix on August 12, 2021. To make it be clear: this film will be a Netflix exclusive. So if you are a fan of the Monster Hunter series, prepare to shell out the money for a Netflix subscription. Fortunately, it’s “only” $8.99 a month, the same as every other streaming service.

Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild ~ Details

Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild
When you want to hunt dragons, Gatling guns suddenly seem like appropriate weapons.

Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild will be the first animated/anime film in the Monster Hunter universe when Netflix releases it. For many fans though, it will be the first film period. Yeah, that live action Monster Hunter film back in 2020 didn’t exactly earn universal praise. In no small part due to the lack of monsters. Apparently, that film fell into the same trap that 2014 Godzilla film fell into.

Where is the Monster Hunter in this again?

Yeah, it looks like you don’t have to worry about Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild butchering the premise like the live action film did. For one thing, it actually does take place in the Monster Hunter universe, with Aiden the Ace Cadet as the star of the show. The only negative thing I’d have to comment on is the fact that the film is apparently only 58 minutes long. In other words: about 2.5 anime episodes long. So if you were expecting a multi-hour epic like Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, you are out of luck. Still, this could be a short but sweet film. We will just have to see when it finally comes out on Netflix.

Conclusion

Netflix officially announced that they will release Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild on August 12, 2021. This will be the first animated/anime film in the Monster Hunter franchise. It will actually take place in the game universe, unlike the live action version. Are you a fan of the Monster Hunter games? Check out this film on that date.
