With the Monster Hunter movie’s release only a month away in December, it’s only natural that they’d want to promote it. And what better way to do so than to have a collaboration with the game series by Capcom it’s based on? Specifically: Monster Hunter World.

Monster Hunter-ception, anyone?

Monster Hunter World has just announced that they will be doing a collaboration with the Monster Hunter movie on December 4, 2020. While they’re not saying it, I’m fairly certain that this is in anticipation of the movie’s release. Especially since the movie launches in US theaters on December 25, 2020. Funnily enough, UK audiences get to watch the movie on December 4, so this collaboration makes more sense there timeline-wise.

Monster Hunter Collaborating With…Itself?

Now you too can pretend to be Milla Jovovich.

The Monster Hunter World x Monster Hunter movie collaboration will consist of a 2-part special event. The event requires you to have the Iceborne expansion pack, so if you don’t have it, you might want to get it beforehand. The event also requires you to be of Master rank 1 or higher, meaning that you have to complete the main game plus the Iceborne expansion pack to be able to participate. So if you haven’t finished the game yet, you might want to hurry.

Assuming that you meet all of these conditions though, you have a chance to unlock some sweet new content in Monster Hunter World. You get to play as Artemis from the movie, for one thing. Part 1 of the event also lets you fight a Black Diablos like the one from the movie. It’s found in an area called the “Wildspire Waste”. Once you slay it, you unlock the Artemis α+ Armor set for use on your character.

Welp, time to go dragon-slaying again.
Sweet quest rewards though.

Part 2 of this Monster Hunter World event lets you fight a Rathalos in the “Ancient Forest” area. Completing this last part nets you the Artemis Layered Armor set. In addition, completing the entire event will give you a new guild card background based on the movie, new titles, and new poses your character can adopt.

Another dragon to slay.
And some more nice quest rewards to go with it.

One last thing: this Monster Hunter World event will last until December 2…of 2021. So yeah, if you’re worried about not having enough time to participate, fear not. With a year to grind through the main game and Iceborne expansion, you have plenty of time even if you just bought it.

Conclusion

Monster Hunter World is doing a collaboration with…itself, basically. This special event will net you plenty of new gear and content, and even an opportunity to paly as Artemis herself from the Monster Hunter movie. With a year to complete this event, even newcomers who just bought the game will have a surefire chance of being able to participate. If you’re interested in the game, this is a good chance for you to buy it, and try it out for yourself.
