Story Synopsis: Immortal Iron Fist Vol. 1: The Last Iron Fist Story
Danny Rand is the current Iron Fist, but there’s another. Find out what this means and how it’s possible in this week’s Comic Rewind, Immortal Iron Fist Vol. 1: The Last Iron Fist Story.
Rand was the head of the multibillion dollar company, Rand Corp. However, Wai-Go was planning a hostile takeover of the company. Rand had an old friend behind the takeover, Davos. Davos wanted the Iron Fist dead, but not the one we know and love.
An old man has been on the run for decades, but Davos and his minions find him. Orson Randall defeated the minions by using the power of the Iron Fist. However, that isn’t supposed to be possible. There is only supposed to be one.
Randall couldn’t hide from his fate any longer and decided to seek out Rand. However, will it be as friends or foes. What could scare an Iron Fist like that?
Immortal Iron Fist Vol. 1: The Last Iron Fist Story was written by Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction with art by David Aja and Travel Foreman. Marvel Comics published the volume in 2007.
A Marvel Story That Isn’t X-Men? I’m Shocked Too
I wanted to read some Marvel, but not X-Men and wanted to read an out-of-the-way character. Therefore I decided to read some Iron Fist. This is not a new comic to me, but it has been a long time since I read it.
Most of the time I see Iron Fist he is a wise sage and talks in abstracts. I liked that this Rand was like a normal person. He had jokes and wasn’t so uptight.
Two Iron Fists Equals Double The Fun
The thing I liked most about this volume was the other Iron Fist, Randall. Him being alive and being able to use the power of the Iron Fist as well opened up a door to what else is out there in the world. There could be multiple Iron Fists in the world and Rand may someday have to fight them.
This volume also hinted at the Tournament of Heavenly Cities. The seven cities of Heaven each have a champion and they will fight in a tournament. Unfortunately we don’t get to see them in this, but I can’t wait to read the next volume.
Aja’s Iron Fist Has A Nice Ring To It
Talking about this volume isn’t complete without talking about David Aja’s art. It is very matte without any gloss at all. I love that kind of art. It just seems like it should be in a comic book. It also brings the hero down to a more relatable level and in a way humanizes them. Personally I think Aja really shines in his Hawkeye work years later which I will review soon. However, he does fantastic work in this.
This is an amazing comic and the side stories which come out of this are amazing. If you don’t know much about Iron Fist or don’t like the Eastern Mysticism stuff which he has a lot of times then this is for you. A short, but extremely fun ride with an Immortal Weapon known as Iron Fist.
