One season in, The Mandalorian is one of the best Star Wars productions. What does the creator of Star Wars, George Lucas, think about The Mandalorian?

There are a handful of things that provide a good indication.

1. Lucas Has Visited The Set Of The Mandalorian

That’s given away by footage in Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, a behind-the-scenes look at the show.

2. Lucas Cradled ‘Baby Yoda’

Baby Yoda is perhaps the biggest star of the show. Lucas famously held the puppet on the set of The Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau tweeted the photo in January of Lucas’ action. The tweet was wildly popular. It was retweeted 153,200 times and liked 801,900 times.

It’s rather clear from the photo that he cherishes ‘Baby Yoda’. He is cradling the puppet as a father would cradle their child.

Even if he is lukewarm on The Mandalorian, at least he loves one of its main characters.

3. He Is Reportedly ‘Fine’ About It

Former Disney CEO Bob Iger said that the original genius behind Star Wars has been “fine” about The Mandalorian.

“George has been fine,” Iger said.

Lucas hasn’t been critical of The Mandalorian, Iger told Bloomberg. Perhaps, as CinemaBlend’s Mick Joest pointed out, “that’s as good a compliment as the Disney+ series will get from Lucas.”

4. Dave Filoni’s Comments

Filoni, the showrunner of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels and an executive producer of The Mandalorian, thinks that Lucas likes The Mandalorian.

“I think he’s enjoyed the show, and he said once (that) now he gets to watch it as a fan and watch is as a viewer,” Filoni said.

Lucas has been a tough critic of newer Star Wars productions. He did not give real positive comments on Star Wars: The Force Awakens or Star Wars: The Last Jedi and didn’t even show up to the premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, even though he was invited. So him visiting the set, cradling ‘Baby Yoda’, being “fine” about the show, reportedly enjoying the show, considering himself a “fan” and especially not criticizing it is a marked departure from how he has regarded other Star Wars productions.

5. Writers Reportedly “Figured Out” Their Scripts With Him

Actor Giancarlo Esposito told Collider in April 2019 that The Mandalorian writers had “figured (their scripts) out with George Lucas.”

It seems that one of the greatest filmmakers of all time likes The Mandalorian. Do you agree? Comment below!
