Captain America: Brave New World’s director revealed a shocking fact about the movie’s post-credits scene. Julius Onah helped bring Sam Wilson’s Cap to the big screen. In a new interview with The Wrap, the filmmaker revealed that The Leader was hinting at The Illuminati as the menacing group threatening our MCU heroes. They were always in the script but, the movie opted not to name specific names.
“I’m not going to say! I’m not going to say,” the director laughed when asked about the Illuminati roster. “Let’s just say things are purposely left vague in that post-credit for a reason.” Fans will remember the evil variants from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. These Marvel characters were always supposed to be the threat lingering in the future for Sam Wilson and The Avengers.
Onah began, “Yep! That was always pretty much the post-credit scene, and I say that because we didn’t shoot that until our additional photography process, which was when we always knew we were going to do it, because we had this time period allocated to do it.”
“And the goal was to make sure that we were doing it at a time which, because of the strikes, we weren’t writing, nobody was writing, where there was just a clearer picture of where things were going,” he concluded.
Captain America: Brave New World Post Credits Scene

Captain America: Brave New World topped the box office last weekend. Phase Hero sat down with Onah to ask about that mysterious post-credits scene. For the director, the question of how to tie up Anthony Mackie’s adventure and tease what’s out there became a primary goal. It’s even more interesting to think of another Illuminati coming into conflict with the MCU’s heroes.
“That came together as we were also just thinking through, ‘How do you want to resolve the storyline of Samuel Sterns?’ and, ‘How do you want to tip the hat to what’s gonna potentially be coming?’” the filmmaker asked. “I am not gonna give any spoilers on Avengers because that’s not something I would do and not something that frankly I have spoilers to give but I will say, there are things this is teeing up, that I think are gonna be really exciting for audiences.”
Onah added, “As we know, Captain America has historically been a leader of the Avengers and, in terms of ‘The Others’ that are coming, there’s gonna be a lot of fun possibilities that the subsequent movies can play with.”
Captain America: Brave New World is now in theaters.
