Tom Cruise returns to the Mission: Impossible franchise as Ethan Hunt. The new 30-second trailer launched during the Superbowl shows the hero running, flung underwater, breaking into a nuclear submarine and hanging from a plane. The Final Reckoning is the eighth film in the franchise, which started in 1996.
In the new action-packed trailer, Ethan notes, “I need you to trust me one last time,” hinting that this could be the final mission for Cruise’s IMF agent.
What Is Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning About?
The synopsis for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is as cryptic as ever. It promises to put Ethan Hunt through his paces once more. “Our lives are the sum of our choices.” Tom Cruise is no slouch when it comes to stunts, having previously scaled the Burj Khalifa, and The Final Reckoning will have some of the actor’s most dangerous stunts.
“When you stick your face out [of an airplane], going over 120 to 130 miles an hour, you’re not getting oxygen,” Cruise recently explained in an interview with Empire. “So I had to train myself how to breathe. There were times I would pass out physically; I was unable to get back into the cockpit.”
Christopher McQuarrie, who has directed every movie in the franchise since 2015’s Rogue Nation, returns to the director’s chair. Tom Cruise returns alongside his Dead Reckoning co-stars Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell, and Pom Klementieff. Franchise favorites Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Angela Bassett are set to return. Alongside newbies Katy O’Brian, Tramell Tillman, Hannah Waddingham, and Stephen Oyoung.
Initially, the seventh and eighth films in the Mission Impossible franchise were shot back-to-back and titled Dead Reckoning – Part One and Dead Reckoning – Part Two. However, after the disappointing box office performance of the seventh movie, the title was changed to The Final Reckoning.
