Patrick Dempsey will join the cast of Dexter: Original Sin as a series regular.
The prequel series follows a younger Dexter, years before the killer-of-killers made famous by Michael C. Hall in the Showtime series. Dempsey will play Aaron Spencer, the captain of the Miami Metro Homicide department.
Dexter: Original Sin picks up in 1991, with Dexter as a student. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father Harry, he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcements’ radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
Obviously, it looks like Dexter’s internship will place him on course to interact with Dempsey’s character.
Other key roles cast for the series include Patrick Gibson as Dexter Morgan and Christian Slater as his father Harry Morgan. Additional confirmed stars include Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, and Alex Shimizu.
Dempsey’s TV accolades include a SAG award and multiple Golden Globe nominations for his work on the long-running ABC medical drama Grey’s Anatomy. His recent feature film roles include Thanksgiving, Ferrari, and Disenchanted.
Dexter: Original Sin comes from executive producers Clyde Phillips, Scott Reynolds, Michael C. Hall, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns. The first season will include 10 episodes, produced by Showtime and set to air on Paramount+.
Production on the series is currently underway in Miami. So, check back to THS for more updates.
