Batman: Caped Crusader has had a bit of a tumultuous history and it’s not even out yet. The show started off preparing to go to Max for release, and then was unceremoniously dropped. Prime Video stepped in to save the show, and now it’s heading to Amazon. The show now has a cast announcement with a teaser that includes Hamish Linklater (Midnight Mass) as Batman. Starring opposite Linklater is McKenna Grace, Reid Scott, Dane Donohue, Gary Anthony Williams, Jason Watkins, John Dimaggio, Krystal Joy Brown, Michelle C. Bonilla, Eric Morgan Stuart, Tom Kenny, Minnie Driver, Diedrich Bader, Jamie Chung and Christina Ricci. Characters set to appear in the show include Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Jim Gordon and Clayface.
Here’s the logline for the series:
“Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear. Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human—the BATMAN. His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications.”
The series is a reimagining of the Batman mythology that includes executive producers J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm. Reeves directed Robert Pattinson in “The Batman,” and Timm is the co-creator of Batman: The Animated Series. It’s set to build on that series which aired in the ’90s for 85 episodes.
Prime Video has a two-season order for the show. It’ll premiere on August 1st on Amazon Prime Video. All 10 episodes of the first season drop on release.
