It’s a trap! (But maybe not how you’d expect.) The trailer for the next flick from writer/director M. Night Shyamalan, Trap, debuted to audiences at CinemaCon last week. Now, Warner Bros. officially shared the clip online, so we can all check it out.
Watch the first trailer for Trap below.
The film trailer teases a father and daughter attending a pop concert. When the father (played by Josh Hartnett) casually inquires about the police presence at the event, he’s told the concert is actually an elaborate trap set by law enforcement to catch a serial killer called “The Butcher.” Then, we see Hartnett’s character slink off to the bathroom and use his phone to check on some remote security camera footage – where we see someone who’s presumably The Butcher’s next victim tied up.
Shyamalan wrote and directed Trap. The film features musical performances by his daughter (and real-life singer-songwriter) Saleka Shyamalan.
In addition to Hartnett, the feature also stars Ariel Donoghue, Saleka Shyamalan, Hayley Mills, and Allison Pill.
Trap reunites Shyamalan with several behind-the-scenes collaborators, including Herdĭs Stefănsdŏttir (Knock at the Cabin) and Susan Jacobs (Old) working on music; Caroline Duncan (Old) on costume design; Noëmi Preiswerk as editor (Knock at the Cabin, Servant); and Douglas Aibel as casting director (Servant, Signs).
Trap will premiere exclusively in theaters August 9.
