CinemaCon 2024 is underway in Las Vegas and Warner Bros. is making its presence known with its presentation at the big event. Here’s everything that happened during the big WB presentation.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (May 24)

The presentation kicked off with a recap of 2023 before heading into Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the spin-off and prequel to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, which is once again directed by George Miller. In attendance for the presentation were Miller, and stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth. Joy plays the titular character Imperator Furiosa, a role originated by Charlize Theron in the 2015 film.

When speaking about the prequel, Joy called it a “story of relentless commitment to impossible hope” and declared that working with Miller was the most incredible experience she has ever had.

Hemsworth’s character of Warlord Dementus is described as charismatic, with Miller revealing that he’s had the script for a long time and was trying to figure out who would play him. Once he met Hemsworth, he realized he was perfect for the role. The audience was then greeted with an incredible extended look at the film that was set in three chapters. Fans will have much to look forward to when Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga opens on May 24.

The Watchers (June 14)

The Watchers was up next, which is the upcoming supernatural horror film written and directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan. Based on the novel of the same name by A.M. Shine, Shyamalan was in attendance to showcase the film, expressing that it’s based on Celtic folklore and was filmed entirely in Ireland.

A new trailer was then presented for the movie, which is said to have elements of a thriller, fantasy, and horror all rolled into one. Shyamalan is no stranger to the genre as her dad is filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan, known for The Sixth Sense, Signs, The Visit, and more! The Watchers hits screens on June 14.

DC Gives Superman Updates

While he wasn’t in attendance, a clip was played of James Gunn talking about being on the set of Superman with the announcement that he and the entire cast will be at CinemaCon next year!

His co-CEO of DC Studios, Peter Safran, was at the event and followed the clip of Gunn talking up filming on the Superman set. Safran was on deck to talk about the new documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story. Warner Bros. will be releasing the documentary in theaters and the crowd was also treated with a trailer for the doc, which details Reeve’s life during the aftermath of his accident which led to him becoming an activist for disability rights.

Horizon: An American Saga (August 16)

Kevin Costner was up next to present his film Horizon: An American Saga, a project he directed and co-wrote with Jon Baird. Chapter 1 hits screens on June 28 while Chapter 2 bows on August 16. This will be his first film as a director since 2003’s Open Range. Following the presentation of Horizon, Costner was given the CinemAcon Visionary Award.

Mickey 17 (January 31, 2025)

Up next was Mickey 17, with director Bong Joon-Ho in attendance to present the film. Based on the 2022 novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, the number 17 in the title represents how many times he dies, according to Joon-Ho. The crowd was then treated to an exclusive trailer for the film, which stars Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo.

The main Mickeys in the film are 17 and 18, which means there are two of them the audience will be mainly following. Yeun plays Mickey’s best friend and Warner Bros. keeps positively stressing how original the movie is

The trailer was nothing short of amazing, coming off as very bizarre, funny, and extremely sci-fi in nature. After it concluded, Pattinson came out in support of the film, which was shuffled around a lot on the release date by Warner Bros. before landing on its new date of January 31, 2025.

Trap (August 9)

Up next was director M. Night Shyamalan to present his new thriller Trap, bringing with him an exclusive first look. Shyamalan described it as you’re going to a concert, the lights go down, you’re here to see a singer and all you see is the singer under a spotlight as you’re moved by the performance before something terrible happens.

The film follows a man and daughter who attend a pop concert where they realize they are really at the center of a sinister event. The trailer was shown for the film, which stars Josh Hartnett and Shyamalan’s eldest daughter, Saleka Shyamalan. Trap hits screens on August 9.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (September 6)

Up next was Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the highly anticipated sequel to the hit 1988 film directed by Tim Burton. To celebrate the presentation, a Burton sizzle reel was played to showcase some of the director’s biggest hits and accomplishments.

Following the reel, Burton, Catherine O’Hara, Monica Belluci, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, and the man himself, Michael Keaton, all came out on stage wearing black, except Keaton of course. This represents most of the film’s stacked ensemble cast, with Jenna Ortega and Winona Ryder being the only people missing in action.

Keaton described the sequel as “really f*cking good” and said there could be no sequel without O’Hara, who reprises her role as Delia Deetz from the original film. The audience was then shown clips from the film, which hits screens on September 6.
