Hey everybody, have you heard the news? Joe Bob is back in town. After the exciting pre-recorded Jamboree episode which opened Season 6, this episode goes back to the trailer park as we go to one movie a night. Certainly, some fans may not like the change in for anyone not in their 20’s you don’t have to risk falling asleep during the second feature.

While this new format was great, it featured a pretty bad movie to start things off. If you’re unfamiliar, every two weeks on The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs; the former Monstervision host and his co-host Darcy The Mail Girl feature an exploitation and/or horror film. This week they showed Rottentail.

Rottentail Proves To Be Rotten

Rottentail

Rottentail certainly is the type of movie that even as a hardcore horror fan I’d not last more than 5 minutes watching. The movie aimed to be a comedy/horror but the movie was neither funny nor horrific. Often the movie’s laughs came at its own expense, and I don’t think that’s enough to warrant a viewing.

If you were watching this with a group, it’d be slightly more entertaining. However, I watched it on my own and it just didn’t have any redeeming entertainment value. It just felt like a chore and I don’t like feeling obligated to stick through a movie shown on the Last Drive-In just because I want to make it through. It didn’t help that unlike a Roger Corman movie, this was not so tightly edited.

As for the commentary by Joe Bob and Darcy, it was entertaining enough. The joke at the end was great and I enjoyed the mail segment but none of it is really worth struggling through Rottentail for.

Conclusion

A terrible movie makes for an excruciating watch, and not even Darcy and Joe Bob’s commentary can save it. Hardcore fans will watch this for completionist’s sake but this is certainly not an episode that I’d classify as anything more than a deep cut for fans looking to experience the full experience of The Last Drive-In.

The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs airs live on Shudder bi-weekly on Fridays at 6pm PST / 9pm EST. If you miss the live airing, episodes are also archived and posted the following Sunday.
