The Last of Us season two has found the person to play Abby in season two, actress Kaitlyn Dever. The first season of the acclaimed series premiered on HBO almost exactly a year ago to critical acclaim. The show decimated records that were held by series like Game of Thrones and Westworld and even earned some Emmy nominations. The first season of the show is faithful to the first game, which means the second season will pick up where the second game takes off.

Pedro Pascal played Joel, and Bella Ramsey brought Ellie to life, but they need someone to play Abby. Enter Kaitlyn Dever. She recently starred in the excellent alien invasion flick No One Will Save You for Hulu. Here’s what The Last Of Us showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann had to say about the casting choice.

“Our casting process for season two has been identical to season one: we look for world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material. Nothing matters more than talent, and we’re thrilled to have an acclaimed performer like Kaitlyn join Pedro, Bella, and the rest of our family.”

Abby is a difficult character to play because of her actions in The Last of Us 2. If you haven’t played the game, Abby is a critical character to Joel and Ellie’s story and needed a powerful performer behind the role. Luckily, they have one in Kaitlyn Dever. The show is expected to go across multiple seasons as well, so it looks like she’ll be here for the foreseeable future. Dever is no stranger to Naughty Dog (the company behind The Last of Us), she previously worked for them voicing Cassie, Nathan Drake’s daughter in Uncharted 4.

When Can We Expect The Last Of Us Season Two?

As we corroborated in our report about The Last Of Us season two in December, the show starts production in February, more specifically on February 12th, which was shared by Craig Mazin at a panel during ‘A Night In The Writers Room’. As for the release date, we won’t know that until production is finished.
