The Satanic Panic returns. Trick Or Treat, the 1986 classic horror movie featuring Ozzy Osbourne and Gene Simmons is finally making its way to streaming this Halloween. The film has never been available on streaming until now. Our friends at Bloody Disgusting are bringing the film to their streaming service, ScreamBox. Cineverse is presenting the film from Red Shirt Pictures/Synapse Films. The film begins streaming on October 27th, 2023.
This is the very first time the new 4K restoration from Synapse Films has ever been seen also. They recently acquired the horror flick and gave it a new 4K restoration that’ll be used for a 4K UHD/Blu-Ray at a later date.
Charles Martin Smith directed the film, and it stars Marc Price, Doug Savant, Tony Fields, and features cameos from Simmons and Osbourne. It blended the metal scene of the 80s with the slasher boom. If you love heavy metal, this might be the best expression of the genre and what it means to be a fan.
Here’s a synopsis of Trick or Treat:
This Halloween it’s PARTY TIME. Following the death of his heavy metal idol, a bullied teenage boy inadvertently discovers away to resurrect the rocker. After hearing the news of his hero’s death, Eddie Weinbauer (Price) finds himself in possession of a one-of-a-kind item, the final recording of Sammi Curr. While, at first, the record seems like a godsend, things quickly turn when he discovers its sinister secret. Played a certain way, it has the power to bring the demonic rocker back from the dead and unleash heavy metal Hell on those who get in his way.
Trick Or Treat‘s only downfall is that it kind of leans into the Satanic Panic of the era. It presents the story as a cautionary tale instead of using the power of heavy metal to do good. It was written by Michael S. Murphy, Joel Soisson, and Rhet Topham.
ScreamBox is a streaming service that is dedicated to giving horror fans the best possible content out there. They’ve had plenty of “first-times” like Freddy’s Nightmares and now Trick or Treat. They’re pretty affordable and made our list of best streaming services for horror fans!
