There’s no question that Netflix’s One Piece is a major success. Less than 2 weeks after its global debut on Netflix on August 31, 2023; it has already amassed a grand total of 37.8 million views. This live-action adaptation of the anime and manga of the same name by Eiichiro Oda managed to reach the top 10 spot on Netflix in 93 countries, and in 46 of those countries, it reached the number 1 spot. Critics alone gave it an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes over 53 reviews, with audiences giving it a 95% score on the same over 10,000+ reviews. Indeed, it’s already one of Netflix’s highest audience scores for a series to date. Even social media platforms are singing its praises, with TikTok alone generating over 4 billion search impressions for #onepiecenetflix.
All in all, you can understand that Netflix’s One Piece is a huge hit. So much so that Netflix has already greenlit a season 2 for it. Don’t believe me? Then why not believe Eiichiro Oda himself in his special message video below, and eagerly await the live-action Straw Hat Pirates’ next adventure for yourself?
Netflix’s One Piece Season 2: Details
Eiichiro Oda himself is announcing that Netflix’s One Piece is getting a season 2 on YouTube, in his own voice to boot. Not only that, but he even gets a puppet Transponder Snail to speak out of. It seems the man himself is content to just cover his face with his usual fish-headed author avatar. If you want a complete transcription of what Oda-sensei is announcing, then you can check it out below:
To the Straw Hat Grand Fleet: What did you think of Season 1 of the live-action ONE PIECE? I spent a long time working on it with Netflix and Tomorrow Studios. It seems people around the world have been enjoying the show, which makes the hard work from the production team truly worth it.
To everyone who’s been a fan of ONE PIECE for years, and to those who experienced ONE PIECE for the first time, thank you so much.
Two weeks after the launch, I just received some great news. Netflix has decided to renew the show! The adventures of Iñaki and the live-action Straw Hats will continue onward!
It’ll still take a while to get the scripts ready, so please be patient.
From here on, it seems to me the Straw Hats will need a great doctor… We will see!”
To summarize: Netflix’s One Piece is getting a season 2, and it looks like that next season will finally introduce Tony Tony Chopper to the Straw Hat Pirates. No cast or release date, but that’s only natural. It did just start production after all, so that’s something we’ll have to wait for Netflix to give us later. Tune back in to THS to find out more about this upcoming season 2 of Netflix’s One Piece when we do.
