WATCH TO WATCH: THEATRE RELEASES

Premiering this week is a pair of sequels that couldn’t be more different. Theatre-goers will be able to check out the supernatural horror film, The Nun 2, or the romantic comedy, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3.

THE NUN II

The Nun II is the sequel to the 2018 film, The Nun. The film is the 9th entry in The Conjuring Universe. The Nun II picks up four years after the original and once again features Sister Irene as she deals with the demonic nun, Valak. Lizzie White, in our THS review, appreciated the scares but also found some aspects of the film to be a little too drawn out.

Similar to the first film, The Nun II is filled with a ton of lore. This time, instead of the blood of Christ, the story follows St. Lucy – the patron saint of the blind. While I understand we need all this lore to tell a religious horror story, I also found the film to be bogged down by it. The film is full of good scares, but a lot of the setups go on too long. Sometimes it gets past the point of tension building into “Is it ever going to happen?”.

WATCH TO WATCH: TV & STREAMING RELEASES

This week the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid swims its way to Disney+ and the second season of the thriller, Dark Winds premiered its finale on AMC+.

THE LITTLE MERMAID

The latest live-action remake of a beloved Disney animated film, The Little Mermaid, heads to Disney+. Our review here at That Hashtag Show praised the expansion of Ariel and Eric’s relationship.

Expanding Ariel and Eric’s relationship is definitely the best part of the live-action Little Mermaid. Thanks to nearly an hour more of runtime – and modern sensibilities about relationships – the movie gives us a lot more to develop their friendship and romance.
