Netflix‘s One Piece is soon going to set sail and show us what the Straw Hat Pirates look like in live-action. In fact, as of this writing, the series debut is only 10 days away. To commemorate this, Netflix has decided to give us a sneak peek at their upcoming live-action adaptation of the anime and manga of the same name by Eiichiro Oda. What is this sneak peek, you might ask? Well, as you might notice by the title of this article, it’s a behind-the-scenes featurette video. Don’t believe me? Then why not check it out below, and see if this version of Luffy plus the rest of the Straw Hats lives up to your expectations for yourself?

Netflix’s One Piece: Inside the Story ~ Details

So far, it looks good. Now all we have to see if it lives up to this featurette video.

Netflix has just released this behind-the-scenes featurette for the live-action adaptation of One Piece above on YouTube. The featurette itself is titled “Inside the Story”, and it’s exactly as you would expect from the title. The video shows quite a bit of what’s going on behind a bunch of scenes, while also giving us a look at how well the live-action cast stays true to the canonical personalities of the main characters.

In fact, I’ll have to admit: Iñaki Godoy as Luffy isn’t that bad. When he’s in his joyously hyper parts, he actually sounds like Luffy. Now if only he would turn down the dreamy parts, then he would be more true to Luffy’s character. As for everyone else in this live-action One Piece adaptation, they’re not too bad. Their character descriptions sound accurate, but their scenes were just a bit too short to get a look at what they’re like in live-action. Hopefully, they stay true to their canonical characters. We’ll just have to see when Netflix finally releases this series.

As for when that will be? Well, the very end of that “Inside the Story” featurette video reveals that Netflix’s One Piece will make its global premiere on August 31, 2023. Of course, it will be a Netflix exclusive. Thus, you will need a paid Netflix subscription to watch this live-action adaptation.

Netflix's One Piece horizontal key visual.
I think we all hope the series is as good as this key visual is making it look.
