Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: Details

Why am I getting Horizon Forbidden West feels from this thumbnail?

Summer Games Fest 2023 is proud to announce Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with that new trailer above on YouTube. Said trailer does a very good job at showing off the gorgeous visuals of this upcoming sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake. The luscious open world of the land outside Midgar reminds me of Horizon Forbidden West in many ways. Both of them give a lot of attention to detail. For example: the wind blowing through each individual plant, or the movement of hair as wind blows across it. All in all, it looks like Rebirth is going to be quite the eye candy for fans.

It’s not just the graphics of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth that’s the sole highlight of this trailer. It’s also the story and characters. Here, we finally get to see Yuffie Kisaragi make her debut in a main game. Technically, she did appear in Final Fantasy VII Remake. However, she only appeared in the Intergrade DLC. Rebirth will be her first proper appearance in the main story, and wow, it’s quite the appearance. There’s definitely a whole lot of drama going on between Yuffie and Sephiroth. We’ll just have to see the full extent of this drama when the game finally comes out.

Fortunately, the trailer does give us an idea of when that will be. At the very end of said trailer, it reveals that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has a release window of sometime in early 2024. With that window a year away, you might as well relax and replay Final Fantasy VII Remake. Or play it for the first time if you’ve been thinking about getting it. Tune back in to THS to find out more Final Fantasy news when we get it.
