When was the last time you’ve seen Oldboy? Thankfully, Neon is here to help us out with that by releasing a restored and remastered version of this cinematic masterpiece. Don’t believe me? Then why not check out their official trailer for it below? Just to warn you all though: prepare for things to get weird. Really weird. You’ll see.

Oldboy: One Really Weird Boy

When you have your main character eat a live octopus on camera, then you know things are going to get weird…and messed up.

Neon is proud to unveil its new official trailer for Oldboy on YouTube. At least, I’m fairly certain they’re proud of it. I’m sure this cinematic masterpiece by Park Chan-wook is in fact the masterpiece everyone says it is. It’s just that looking at the trailer alone, you get the feeling that you’re going to be watching a really weird and messed up film.

Said trailer for Oldboy shows the main character Oh Dae-su (played by Choi Min-sik) finding himself in a suitcase in the middle of a grassy field. It only gets weirder from there. How weird? Well, the main character walks by as a random man falls onto a nearby car out of the sky. Then he decides to eat a whole live octopus for some bizarre reason. And then he decides to perform a bit of yoga while crying. In between those moments, he’s beating up a whole bunch of people. Why? Don’t know. The trailer is pretty vague about the reasons behind this guy’s actions. Maybe they’ll make more sense when we actually see the film? Well, we can hope so.

'Oldboy' Neon key visual.
But the real question is: where did he go in the first place?

As for when that will be? Well, at the end of that official trailer reveals that this restored and remastered version of Oldboy will hit theaters on August 16, 2023.
