We got the big reveal for the first Chapter of the upcoming DC film/TV slate yesterday. Now, they’re not wasting any time bringing on directors for some of the projects. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that James Mangold is in talks to direct the upcoming Swamp Thing film that was announced. Mangold wasn’t announced or talked about during their top-secret DC press conference, but Mangold did Tweet out of the following image late last night.

Of the ten projects that were announced yesterday, Swamp Thing is the darkest and dreary. The horror-based superhero was created by Bernie Wrightson and Len Wein. He made his first appearance in 1971’s House Of Secret #92. It was during the ’80s with Alan Moore that Swamp Thing really took off as a character. His mythology expanded and the character grew from a simple horror to something with deep and rich lore.

Swamp Thing has made his way to the big screen a couple of times starting off in 1982 with Wes Craven directing a film and the series that streamed on DC Universe.

At this moment, it’s not clear if Mangold would write and direct the Swamp Thing film or just direct. He wrote/directed both Logan and the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Dial Of Destiny, which releases in theaters on June 30th, 2023.

We’ll keep you updated on this story as it develops.
