It may be December, but Netflix is gearing up for Valentine’s Day. Today the streamer revealed a first look at its upcoming rom-com, Your Place or Mine.
The film stars Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher as Debbie and Peter, best friends and total opposites. Debbie craves routine with her son in LA; Peter thrives on change in NY. When they swap houses and lives for a week, they discover what they think they want might not be what they really need.
“Your Place or Mine is kind of a love letter to single moms everywhere,” said Witherspoon. “Even if your life didn’t perfectly work out the way you envisioned, there’s hope and there’s joy, and love can still be found.”
The film comes from writer/director Aline Brosh McKenna, who’s no stranger to rom-coms. (She wrote Laws of Attraction, The Devil Wears Prada, and 27 Dresses; she also co-created Crazy Ex-Girlfriend with Rachel Bloom.)
“It’s perfect for Valentine’s Day, not just because it’s a love story, but really because there are a lot of different kinds of love in the movie,” said Brosh McKenna. “There’s parental love, friend love, and even love for a city that you live in.”
In addition to Witherspoon and Kutcher, the film also stars Jesse Williams, Zoë Chao, Wesley Kimmel, Griffin Matthews, Rachel Bloom, Shiri Appleby, and Vella Lovell, with Tig Notaro and Steve Zahn.
