The key characters of Oz are just about settled. Hot off the announcement yesterday that Michelle Yeoh would join the cast of Wicked, we now know even more stars taking part in the feature adaptation.

Check out the list of just-announced actors and their characters below.

Newly Announced Stars

Marissa Bode will play Nessarose, Elphaba’s sister. Bode’s credits include Little Shop of Horrors and Mary Poppins.

Bowen Yang will play Pfannee, a student at Shiz and classmate of Elphaba and Glinda’s. Yang is an Emmy-nominated SNL performer, who recently appeared in features Fire Island and Bros.

Bronwyn James will play ShenShen, another classmate. James’ recent credits include The Ballad of Renegade Nell on Disney+ and Lockwood & Co. on Netflix.

Keala Settle will play Miss Coddle. Settle is a Tony-nominated performer who also appeared in the feature film The Greatest Showman.

Aaron Teoh will play Avaric. Teoh is best known for appearances in UK theatre productions, including Merrily We Roll Along and The King and I.

Colin Michael Carmichael will play Nikidik. Carmichael will appear in Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Snow White.

About Wicked

The Wicked film comes from director Jon M. Chu. It will adapt the popular Broadway musical, which itself serves as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz and loosely adapts the novel by Gregory Maguire. Chu’s feature adaptation will actually arrive in two parts, set for Christmas 2024 and 2025 release. 

The project previously revealed its leads, Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda. Other announced cast members include Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Ethan Slater as Boq, and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible.

As a musical, Wicked proved a smash hit, winning over 100 international awards, including three Tony Awards. The musical has been performed in over 16 countries and 100 cities, watched by over 60 million people worldwide. That makes it one of the most successful theatrical performances of all time. Hopefully, the much-anticipated feature adaptation can prove as successful.
