You know how Margot Robbie had come up with an idea for an all-female Pirates of the Caribbean spinoff film? And then about a month ago, Disney shot that idea down? Well, as it turns out: Jerry Bruckheimer, the guy basically in charge of the whole Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, is now claiming that Disney hasn’t exactly shut Robbie’s concept down. They apparently only winged it for a while.

Margot Robbie to Get Her Day…Someday?

Variety recently released an interesting report about Jerry Bruckheimer and his views about Margot Robbie‘s vision of her all-female Pirates of the Caribbean spinoff. To be precise: the report talks about something Bruckheimer apparently said to Collider. Apparently, Bruckheimer claims that, despite Robbie‘s words to the contrary, her all-female spinoff isn’t quite dead yet. Yes, Bruckheimer is moving ahead with another Pirates script, but according to him, that doesn’t mean that he’s tossing out Robbie’s script entirely. In fact, according to Bruckheimer’s exact words:

I think that that script will come forward at a certain point. We developed two different stories for ‘Pirates’ and the other one’s going forward first, so that’s what we’re working on, to try to get that one made.

It’s a bit vague, admittedly, but the intention is pretty clear. Jerry Bruckheimer isn’t using Margot Robbie’s version of Pirates of the Caribbean right now, but that doesn’t mean he wants to toss it out outright. He does apparently want to bring it back to life at some point in the future. Given that this is the producer for the entire franchise, his word does carry some weight to it. Exactly when Robbie will get her spinoff though is completely up in the air, since he doesn’t even hint at a timeline for this.

The All-Female Pirates of the Caribbean Spinoff: Timeline?

All we know for certain is that Jerry Bruckheimer won’t even look at Margot Robbie’s spinoff script until Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is out. Unfortunately, we don’t even have a release date for it yet, so it must still be very early on in production. It probably won’t be until at least 2024 before we even see this latest Pirates film. If not even later depending on how much development hell it goes through.

As for Margot Robbie’s all-female Pirates of the Caribbean spinoff? Well, let’s say Jerry Bruckheimer is serious about him not tossing it away. It will still be years before we see anything come of it. Might as well grab some rum and relax until then.
