The Super Mario Bros. Movie: New Official Trailer
Universal Pictures recently revealed this new official trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Said trailer shows off how gorgeously animated the film is. The characters are gorgeously rendered. Their hair (including beard hair), in particular, looks and moves realistically, and you can even make out each and every individual hair to boot. And all while keeping everyone looking like their video game counterparts. Mario looks like Mario, Peach looks like Peach, and Toad…well, he’s Toad. Even Bowser’s skin looks appropriately hard and scaly, as befitting the Koopa King.
Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (collaborators on Teen Titans Go!, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, Minions: The Rise of Gru), the film stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
It’s not just the character models of The Super Mario Bros. Movie that looks gorgeous though. The environments also look amazing. Not only do they have beautiful rendering, but they also perfectly fit the world of Mario. In particular, that last scene with Rainbow Road clearly used the level/map from the Mario Kart games as inspiration.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie releases in theaters on April 7th, 2023.
