Mobile Suit Gundam fans might remember that rather infamous unaired episode called “Cucuruz Doan’s Island”. You know, the one that they never released outside of Japan as per the original director’s wishes? Well, it seems that we’re finally going to get to see this episode at long last against that aforementioned director’s wishes. And in the form of a feature-length anime film to boot.

Mobile Suit Gundam Cucuruz Doan’s Island: Details

With some pretty well-animated CG Gundams to boot.

Mobile Suit Gundam Cucuruz Doan’s Island is the anime film adaptation of Mobile Suit Gundam Ep. 15 “Cucuruz Doan’s Island”, which was never aired outside of Japan due to the original director of the anime, Yoshiyuki Tomino, believing it was of inferior quality to the rest of the anime. Sunrise (Mobile Suit Gundam, Cowboy Bebop, Code Geass) is the animation studio behind this anime film, as they have been for all previous (and likely future) Gundam anime, including the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. Yoshikazu Yasuhiko is the director of this anime film, with Toshizo Nemoto writing, and Takayuki Hattori composing the music.

As for what Mobile Suit Gundam Cucuruz Doan’s Island is about? Well, Crunchyroll is here to help out with that via an official synopsis. Check it out below:

“After a covert mission goes wrong, Mobile Suit pilot Amuro Ray and his comrades are stranded on a remote island. The battalion was sent to a land called the Island of No Return to clear off any enemy forces, only to find a group of children and an enemy mecha attack. Now Amuro must find a way for them all to escape this mysterious land, but not before meeting a strange man—Cucuruz Doan.”
